History of Essences
”A flower is the highest expression of a plant or tree’s consciousness”
Flower essences are an ‘ancient’ practice that goes back thousands of years.
The earliest recording of Flower Essences goes back to the Egyptians who collected the ‘dew’ of the plants to heal the ‘emotions’ and this was found written on papyrus.
The earliest European recording dates back to St Hildegard Von Bingen (1098-1179). She would put muslin sheets over certain flowers at night which would then enable her to collect the dew of the flowers wringing out the cloth in the morning. The dew was then given to treat certain ‘emotional’ imbalances.
Paracelsus (1493-1541) was a healer and mystic who also collected dew from flowers to heal emotional disharmony. He was a master physician and herbalist who originated the Doctrine of Signatures.
Nicholas Culpeper (1616-1654) was a herbalist and treated patients with dew from flowers as well.
There is a wide history in Asia of picking flowers in the morning and putting them in the bath. The flowers are then left out all day in the sun and the water collected at dusk to be used to realign emotions – especially with women who had just given birth.
Australian Aborigines would eat flowers to get ‘emotional’ healing and they had other ceremonial rituals for healing a person that was very powerful.
Then for years, all knowledge was lost until Dr Edward Bach (1886-1936) a physician and homoeopath recognised the link between emotions and illnesses and developed 38 essences to support the whole person rather than just their physical symptoms.
When I lived in the UK I would often visit Dr Bach’s house as it was close to ours but never did I imagine I would go on to create my own essence range and what’s more from Argentina!
Since the Bach essences were created many new ranges have been developed of which I feel honoured to be one of them!
